Coil 200

Coil is shorting out on my 1989 240. I have no spark so of course have tried 2 coils and both short out. I know this because I used a perfectly good one off of my 92 240 and shorted that one out also. I am putting the + and - correctly with the + being the shielded plastic tipped lead. Any ideas on why my coil is shorting out?
