240 vs 740 vs 840? 200

Hello fellow Brickboarder's,

Please give me a little input on my situation. I am going to retire my 87 240 that I love and had for the past 8 years—it is starting to nickel and dime me to death, she has 400,000 on the odo. The local Volvo guy has 240's, 740's and 850's to chose from, all in good shape, all with different amounts of mileage.

Question #1: I know the 740 is the same motor as the 240, but is it as reliable? At what mileage should you stop considering to purchase one? Any specific thing to look for when buying?

Question #2: The same for the 850. How reliable are they? Any specific thing to look for when buying?
What is high mileage for an 850? Maintenance costs?

Option #1: Do I just buy another 240?
