Can the Knock Sensor Cause a Rich Condition, 945T? 900 1991

I bought my '91 945T 50,000Kms ago, and it had a fairly low-end knocking, almost like a diesel engine. My question is, could this knocking be interpreted by the ECU and knock sensor, and falsely cause a richer mixture?
