240 dash changes 200

I have heard that there were three dash options on 240s over the years.
I know that up until 1981 there was a dashboard with a clock above the center console, and a small tachometer between the speedometer and "temp/tank" guage.

For 1981 the newer dash was introduced, with the standard cluster plus the 52mm gauges to the right. However, I read (on Art B's cleanflametrap.com) that there is a difference between 81-89 dashes and 90-93 ones. The appearance is the same, but I'm worried about different mounting points, etc. Could someone tell me the difference between the 2nd and 3rd series dashes?

The reason I asked is because I would like to know with what years I can replace my cracked dash. I'm certain a pre-81 cluster would not be impossible, but I don't really want to do that. Therefore, I was wondering what years are feasable for use on an '88. Thanks, drew.
