'68 122s won't start ....no fuel? 120-130 1968

I love my white 122 wagon but lately it hasn't been on the road much and I've been getting frustrated. I've had the car for 18mo. and had almost nothing go wrong.

I bought the car because I wanted to have something I could learn from and work on. I really don't know much about working on cars but I'm trying to learn and do as much as I can myself when I have problems.

My current problem is that the car has been sitting for a few weeks because of a coolant leak. Originally I thought it was just a bad gasket where the pipe goes into the bottom of the water pump but I couldn't get it to stop leaking so I pulled the whole thing and it had obviously been leaking internally. I ordered a new pump from IPD and I finally replaced it and started her up last weekend.

Everything was going great but while I was poking around looking for coolant leaks I left the choke pulled out and the car stalled. Right away I cranked the car again and it started then died right away. Since then it hasn't started.

While I was messing around looking at hoses I remember noticing the a clamp on the fuel line to filter connection was loose and tightened it. I went back and looked at that connection which seemed fine but saw that there was no visible fuel in the filter. I remember usually seeing the filter with

<> The car has a B20 w/ two SU's and the later small flatish mech. fuel pump (I forget what it's called) <>

I have two small clear plastic fuel filter cartridges with filter elements inline in the fuel line, one before the fuel pump and the second between the pump and carbs. I have no idea if this is the typical arrangement. I'm pretty sure that the mech fuel pump bolted to the block is the only pump on this car ie. no in-tank pump.

Anyway. There is no gas in the fuel line or visible in the filter. I tried disconnecting the line and trying to get some to siphon in and also unbolted the fuel pump and tried pumping manually with the lever but only a really little bit of fuel sprayed out. I assume there the fuel line should be full of fuel.

Will the pump prime without any fuel in it? I thought maybe that was the problem. Is there a way to pump fuel manually to get the pump primed and fuel in the line? Also the line looks a bit brittle and I was thinking of replacing the section between the pump and the carbs. I assume that isn't going to fix it but seemed like a good idea anyway.

My dad told me to try putting fuel in the carb to try to start the car. I have to admit that I don't actually know how to do that. Anyway it didn't seem like was going to help if there's no fuel in the line.

Absolutely any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

-Evan
