Intermittent shimmy '90 760 Turbo

Got a shimmy thru the steering wheel at all speeds, worse on the highway. Had the wheels balanced repeatedly (on a Hunter), replaced a rim that was bent with a good used one. Shimmy continues. The weird thing is, it will be fine one minute and shake the next, no change in road condition OR speed. Any ideas? I'm about ready to drive it over a cliff.

The car has about 180K miles.
