Great start to the day. I drove my 89 245 auto tranny to the nearby store for the morning paper and while preparing to park on their steeply inclined lot I lost all feeling in my gearshift selector - cable came undone underneath - now fixed and back on the road. But that's not what I came here to talk about.
As I had no park, I engaged the e-brake. (something I know I don't do often enough ) It held, that is until I turned the engine off. At the instant I turned the car off, the brake let go - as in total disconnect. Sheesh! I hadn't even had a cup of coffee at that point. I weathered this little storm by doing a reverse u-turn and banking into a side hill with the wheels cut sharply.
All turned out ok, and even the e-brake is working now, go figure, but why did it let go right when I shut the engine off? big coincidence? So I'm thinking the e-brake cable needs a little looking into. Anyway, your insights are always appreciated.
Thanks / Jim
