Injector ports in the B20 head. 444-544 1964

I have a B20 from a 1975 Volvo in my PV544. The engine was originally fuel injected, but now is carburated. I did a 'better' job of plugging the injector ports earlier this Spring, but I managed to blow out one of the new plugs last week.

For those who have worked with the FI B20; do those ports lead directly into the combustion chamber? I was under the impression that they fed fuel into the intake runner just before the intake valve.

Having to stand up to the combustion pressure would explain why I had a blow-out. Only one plug blew out, and that one was suspect due to some oil on the metal when I plugged it up with JB Weld and a metal disk.

I had more than 4,000 miles on the plug job and I was tooling along at 70 mph when she let loose. I had to scrounge in my toolbox and car to find enough stuff to make a temporary repair.

I'm going outside to fix it this morning, and I'll make doubly-sure the port is clean before I plug it again. I'll also put together a little repair kit so I'll have the required parts to fix it on the road if it should happen again.

I also got another 'guaranteed to work' speedometer head last week, and I'll be plugging the drive cable into it to check it before I go to the trouble of pulling the dash panel for the 5th time.

Steve
