Wiper transmission 900

I am trouble-shooting a dead right side wiper (left works fine) on a 940 from 1400 km away. Assuming it's not just a loose wiper arm nut (no answer from them yet), what are the likely internal culprits?

The FAQ has nothing and overall this seems a pretty reliable mechanism, but I am inclined to send the mechanic the most probable parts before he opens it up. Small parts, if available, are cheaper than shop time and I am willing to gamble a bit.
