transmission problems 200 1988

I've been having transmission problems- the car seems to have alot of trouble going from 1st to 2nd gear. This especially occurs when the engine is cold since once it heats up, the problem seems to disappear. There is no trouble when going from 2nd gear up. Usually the car must be driven 5-10 min at a very high rpm in first gear until it shifts. The car is an 88 volvo with automatic transmission. The transmission has recently been worked on and the fluid levels are fine. Please help-
