Eureka! I found it! 140-160 1975

This is a continuation of my severe flooding problem on my poor 164. It was running so good, that I gave it to C.A. so she wouldn't have to shift gears. Just 2 weeks later, the engine flooded out on the way to my house. It has been here for a month now and every thing checks out just fine. ECU, MAP sensor, engine temp sensor, cold air temp sensor, cold start plug, etc.

I took out the "new" distributor this afternoon, boredom always does this to me. Then I took out the switch thing that tells the injectors when to fire. Surprise, not what I expeced to find (melted points, etc), a lose piece of spring metal with one end covered in felt fell out of the distributer hole!
After hours of sluething, I finally found out what it was. The felt touches the shaft and keeps it clean, or oily. It must have broken and fallen against one side and touched the trigger points for cylinders 1,3,5. That's why the intake manifold filled with liquid gasoline, the injectors were always on.

I am going to ask George if it will hurt to put it together without the felt cleaner. And I am going to call Strandberg Auto in Wisconsin and ask for a new switch thing. Then I want to see if the Grand Dame will run or if you guys want some parts!

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Klaus
