Klaus,
Your discription of the distributor opening was just like mine except for the felt. I had spring metal, and all sorts of ground metal messing up my distributor. I was interested that it turned out to be your distributor causing your problems as well, a problem that sounded just like mine.
If the springs have been stretched, are you going to replace them when you rebuild?
