About a year ago, I got a '90 245 for $100, ended up putting more than I had originally planned into it for my wife's car(at least about $2500, I only did less that half the work myself, but has a lot of new parts now). I replaced the starter (even though it was fine, had 150k on it) with a new NSA starter from FCP Groton (figured I didn't need to send the core back). This way, the car would be more reliable. Well, the starter went bad pretty nastily after a year, & I told FCPG that I didn't have time for the back & forth shipping, so they gave me a full refund even though it had been a yr. I replaced it locally with a rebuilt Bosch (actually, NEW they were out of rebuilts, they only charged me $139!). But now, a month or 2 later, it seems like the NSA starter had chipped a tooth on my flywheel!! I learned how to grab the pulleys, and get it off the bad tooth, but my wife doesn't seem to be keen on doing it herself. So I would say to people to stay away from the NSA starter, the rebuilder says they are troublesome (made in China) and he doesn't rebuild them.
