Exhaust leak 900

'95 945 275k miles

Suddenly developed an exhaust leak in the engine compartment. The local mechanic suspects a blown exhaust manifold gasket, and recommends replacing the gasket and planing the surface of the manifold.

The FAQ has quite a bit to say about the difficulties and risks of removing the rusted nuts on the studs holding the manifold. So I'm thinking of just taking it to the local mechanic. What are the experiences of DIYers in performing this repair? Any advice, tips, etc.?
