I almost have all of the bits needed to fuel inject my car with D-jet and MegaSquirt. I beleive that the engine needs some machine work (looks like there is some blowby), so I want to get the FI setup running before I have the machine work done so I can use it for the post machine shop break in period. Initially I am just going to use Megasquirt for fuel and I will use the signal from the distributor for an RPM source for the computer. Later I will let the computer handle the spark.
Which distributor I should use for my initial setup? I currently have three to choose from: A black mechanical advance from my old B18, an aluminum vacuum unit, and the aluminum vacuum unit with fuel injection contacts in the base.
Then after that, when I go to give the spark control to the computer I have to choose a distributor to gut and lock down the advance/retard to provide a signal for the computer. Which is the best one to sacrifice for this purpose?
Oh ya, any tips on removing the freeze plugs from the fuel injector ports? I was expecting to have to take the head off (I was also going to measure the cylinders at that time), but it would be great if I could take out the freeze plugs without removing the head. Maybe some setup with my slide hammer?
Thanks,
mario
