speedometer 1800 1973

I bought my 1800 ES in 1990, drove it from Oklahoma City to Norfolk, VA. Other than a nearly completely rusted out fuel tank and the resulting problems with rust in the fuel lines, the drive was a blast. However, the speedometer was bouncing all over the dial, and shortly after my return, it disintegrated. Right at 52K original.

I replaced it with another one later that year, but I could never get the thing to work. I replaced the cable from the tranny. Nada. Then I took off the little boxy thing, a gear reducer I believe from the tranny to the cable, and attached the cable directly. Nada.

Then I looked inside the reducer. It's a total loss, as well.

So, tell me, kind sirs, what to do next? I read sometime back about connecting yet another cable to the tranny, but one from a 244.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Fletch
