Doorlocks have me stymied--how to replace w/out keys? 120-130 1966

Many years ago before I began restoring my 122 sedan, we'd lost the keys to the front doors. Now I've bought new replacement locks and keys, have taken apart the doors, taken off the handles, removed the inner-lock mechanisms, removed the lock-pin, and now I'm STUCK.

The manual says to "insert the key" and depress the lock button to release the lock cylinder inside, but w/out the key I'm not getting anywhere. I tried a small screwdriver (someone once said a screwdriver or any small key opened his 122) but no luck either.

I called our local Volvo dealership who I'm fairly friendly with, and their 'old Volvo guy' said it may require drilling, etc. to get the things out. At $90 an hour labor is it worth having him try to do this or would it make more sense to just try to try and find used ones and replace the entire internal parts?

I did also call a locksmith and they'll charge $90 to take make a service visit with no guarantees.

A side note is that the oval chrome exterior of the lock is still around the lock cylinder, although this or its removal isn't mentioned or depicted in any of the manuals.

Would like to get my car back on the road--any input would be appreciated!

thanks,

Holly
