I had the starter on my 92 240 (140,000 miles) replaced about a month ago.
Since the starter was replaced, the new starter always had more of a "tinny" sound then the old one.
Yesterday, I went to start the car and it sounded like there was a high powered vacuum cleaner under the hood. I took the keys out of the ignition and the sound continued. I had to disconnect the battery to turn it off. (I guess if was the starter motor spinning away disengaged from the motor.
The sound kept coming back when I tried reconnecting the battery. I finally hit the starter/solinoid a couple of times, hooked the battery back up and it runs fine.
Does this sound like I got a defective starter? Think this will happen again?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thans.
