To those looking for a challange [electrical] 200 1988

Okay, I think I really screwed up my wiring. While replacing my drivers side rear tail light(wagon). I got the wires mixed up and never quite got them back right. I found a combination that allows all lights except the top "Severe driving condition light" to operate. I have and extra yellow wire that is clipped at the end and goes no where, not sure if it was already like that when I began. The lights operate normal but when I put my left turn signal on the bulb failure indicator blinks with the turn signal even though the light works. I can live with this problem, but I think it may be linked to the much more serious problem in my lack of dash lights when my headlights are on. Here are the symptoms.

When I turn on the headlights the following happens:

1. I have no main dash lights, my warning lights and indicators all work.
2. The tach goes to zero but returns when I turn the dimmer all the way down.
3. The Temp and gas gauges all go way up to incorrect levels.
4. My clock only operates when the car is on but the headlights are off(light doesn't work either)

I should also mention that I replaced my radio in this time span but I unhooked it and checked it several times with no change.
Best guesses, leads , anything. I'm stuck!
Thanks in advance. James
