Converting 240 to R134

The compressor on my 1983 240DL no longer works. I guess it is a good time to convert the system over to R134. Does anybody know of a place that sells a complete conversion kit, including compressor? How difficult is the conversion? I have done brakes, radiator replacement, caliper replacement and engine mounts once (never do that one again). Is this something I should tackle? Or should I bite the bullet and pay the $1100?
