many thanks to all whose posts I read re changing the oil separator box on B230f engines. Along with changing the flame trap and cleaning the large tube feeding the fumes into the inlet manifold I decided to tackle changing the oil separator box because it was decidedly 'gungy', no unseemly language was used and I did not need to remove anything! Just disconnect the wiring loom attached to the top of the box and gently lift/wiggle up and away, leaving behind the drain pipe to the sump.A clean up of the area behind the box was needed. Installed the new box using the 'green' o ring from Volvo as I believe it to be heat and oil resistant. The old box did not have the o ring, just remains of RTV silicone and lots of 'gunge'! I did feed some poly rope down the drain tube to ensure it was clean, and it was, picking up oil on its' end. What makes this job easy for me is, its'a RIGHT HAND DRIVE vehicle, no steering column, brake booster and master cylinder in the way. This is a 1990 240GL sedan with 233500km on the 'clock', originally a fleet vehicle for a pharmaceutical company here in Australia. I use it mainly for long distance trips into the outback, 3000km average on trips and yes the A/C works! Many thanks to all who post their queries and replies it is very educational!
