Based on what I have read here, I decided to replace some stripped studs on the hubs on a couple of '93 struts that I pulled at the yard.
Note that '93 240s have ABS, and the front hubs therefore include a concentric "toothed" wheel to trigger the ABS RPM sensors.
Hoping that that difference from non-ABS models wouldn't be a problem, I threaded an old lugnut partway onto a bad stud and hit the nut twice with a fairly heavy hammer. The stud came loose without damage to the hub, but... removing the stud completely from its hole is a challenge, as the toothed wheel gets in the way.
I can cut the stud to get it out, but I can't cut the new one to put it in.
My next step would be to remove the hub from the spindle and see if I can readily separate the toothed wheel from the hub, but I'm afraid they may be permanently joined.
Has anyone out there dealt with this ABS-unique problem?
