alternator conversion??????? 444-544

hi all, i've read in different places about a delco alt. conversion. i have a 64 544 b18 d that i was wanting to convert to an alt. because of halogen lights, stereo,etc.the alt. wiht built in reg. is avalible at the local parts store but i was wanting to know if it would work with IPDs bracket, the bottom ear is 2 inches thick,although i have only seen a picture of a volvo alt. they dont seem that thick. most of the regulars on brickboard seem really knowledgable about these things,so if anybody could help me with this i would appreciate it. thanks, mike
