Hello forum,
I plan on replacing a failed AC compressor soon, and I was told that it's also a good idea to replace the orifice tube and accumulator as well. I've been reading on the 700/900 faq that a variable orifice valve instead of the tube would increase the performance of the AC.
1) I've taken a look at the AC system and sketched it out so I understand it better. Where is the orifice tube? Is it on the high-pressure side, on the right of the accumulator?
2) I'm going to buy the parts from fcpgroton. They have two orifice tubes for my year 960. One is 'self adjusting' and $24, the other one is $4. Does 'self-adjusting' mean it's a VOV? http://www.fcpgroton.com/VolvoAC/volvo960.htm If not, would any VOV work?
And, if you have any other suggestions about installing the VOV or replacing the accumulator and compressor, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you! Hopefully I'll have some AC before september.
