foam flying out air vent 900

On the driver's side air vent/duct I'm getting small bits of foam blowing out. It's grey/black and contains an oily residue, such that it leaves a spot on one's clothing wherever it hits.

I'd like to pop the vent grill off to clean it as there's still bits stuck behind there. How does one get this off? I've tried prying gently without wanting to get too violent.

Any thoughts on the source of the foam? I'd like to get to the source of the problem so this doesn't become an ongoing issue.
