Hi Guys,
I just completed a long round trip to the mountains in a well maintained 1982 242 (50k on rebuilt engine, with engine wiring replaced at same time, relatively new fuel pump, and new 740 turbo pre-pump). The Volvo ran very well up and back on this trip.
However, on starting the engine the first day back on a cool September morning, the engine ran as if it was running on 3 cylinders the first minute or so, but ran smoothly and well after it had warmed up a little (within 60 seconds).
I checked to see that all the wiring was attached securely and that no vacuum tubing had come loose. There didn't seem to be a problem at that level, although I may have missed something.
Does this sound like a bad cold start valve or something else to those of you who have some experience with the 240's? I'll replace the plugs, rotor, and cap this weekend as routine maintenance, although I assume that a problem here would not be intermittent.
Your thoughts? Thanks.
Regards, Dave
