Outer timing belt cover 200 1987

I just replaced my timing belt tensioner and I'm having trouble getting the timing belt cover back on. It looks like the groove on the left side of the cover slides over the end 'fin' on the water pump. Is that true? Any helpful hints on getting this back on?
