headlights ????? 120-130

this 220 estate has a H4 headlight set in it and the floor dimmer switch is froze so I pulled the wires out to try to get them on so I could make it home... and I got them on and a short time later the passenger side went really dim I wiggled the wires on the back of the buld and it came on bright for about half the trip then when dim again.. and now I cant seem to trace the problem, so I need some advice on what to do about the "junk floor switch"
and about the really dim light? grounds maybe? someone prior to me has done some creative wiring so shound I start over or what? suggestions?
