There's a decent GT at a local mechanic's garage. He claims he's owned the car since '99 and has done a lot of work on it including rebuilding the transmission, engine work, seat restoration, among other things. It's definately an '80 GT with the Virgo wheels, complete foglight/grill. The paint is in good condition and the racing stripes are all present. The only thing visible is some corrosion around the typical trouble areas - rear wheel wells and rockers, and a few other small spots - but easily repairable. Also, the mileage is only 166,000 and the interior is clean and shows it was well cared for. The mechanic seems pretty eager to get rid of the car and claims that unless he can sell it soon he's going to part it out. To be fair, he has about a dozen old cars that he's working on, and I tend to believe him when he says he just doesn't have time to complete the restoration. It runs, though I didn't drive it. He's asking $1,000 for it, and I'm wondering if it's a fair price. Any thoughts? I've always wanted a GT, though I have enough repairs to deal with on the 245 I drive now, and even at $1,000 I might not be able to afford it. Is $1,000 a good deal?
