Hello All-
Car: 1993 960 I-6 2.9L Non-turbo Auto Wagon.. 158k
Recently I started having strange problems at Idle. There are three symptoms which may or may not be related:
1) At idle (both in and out of gear) the engine will 'hunt' between 500 and 1000 RPMs. This happens fairly rapidly in cycles. It does not happen all the time, but is 'real'. If I am at a stop light with the brakes 'lightly' on, the idle change is enough to 'surge' the car forward. This has been happening more and more often as time has passed.
2) The RPM gauge has also intermittently started fluctuating +/-10MPH when at speed. This is NOT real. It only happened a few times (that I’ve noticed) and not as often as the idle hunting problem.
3) On several occasions I have noticed the Tach drop out to zero RPM when coming to a stop. The car is still idling, so I know it's not real. After pulling away from the stop, it seems ok again for awhile. This also hasn't happened that often.
Any ideas what I am looking for?
Thanks!
-Jim
