I've got a 1984 245 DL that I have been trying to bring back to life, but it just doesn't seem to want to run... reliably at least. I had it, as of Saturday the 4th, to the point where it would start kinda hard and I had to hold the gas peddle down a tad to help it start. But once I got it running, I could usually drive it around my yard for 10 maybe 20minutes. The engine would run okay, but not smoothly. And if I firewalled the gas peddle fast it would kill the engine. I would then have to wait a few minutes and then after at least 2 or 3 attempts, it would start and run again. Add to this the problem of it seeming to drain the battery, because after a day of starting, running the engine while parked and then slowly putting around my yard, I find I the battery so weak it will, at the end of the day, only turn the engine over 2 or 3 times and then just seem to loss all cranking power. I asked my old man and he thinks the driving around the yard at low RPMs is draining the battery and possibly the alternator is bad. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on getting the engine while running to smooth out. To say nothing of addressing and even fixing the problem of not being able to firewall the gas pedal without killing the engine. An note on firewalling the gas peddle- when I have the car parked and increase the pressure on the gas peddle steadly till I hit firewall the engine accelerates and then at close to firewall of gas peddle makes a number of loud gun shot bangs and dies. I have AAM connected and I think itz okay. I did put a new distributor in - do I have the timing off? I'm kinda suspecting the fuel pump relays, but then I doubt it would affect runing that bad, would it? I also put new fuel pumps on(intank and main) thinking the running problem was due to poor fuel flow. I'm also suspecting somthing with the fuel pressure regulator. So yea, any tips, advice, etc would be much appreciated. Thanks again.
