The fore and aft rhumba 120-130

There’s a phenomenon that I have noticed on both our 122s that I don’t recall experiencing in my brand new ’66 (but that was a long time ago). When in the lower gears, say 2nd, and at part throttle (or even at zero throttle), the drivetrain can get into a kind of resonance, where the car will surge forward and then falter, repeating this cycle with a period of a few seconds. I don’t think that it’s solely an engine issue but some combination of engine and drivetrain. My initial thought was worn mounts – motor and tranny, which when tired would support sufficient fore and aft movement to set up this oscillatory behaviour. Before I change out all 3 mounts, I thought I would tap the collective wisdom of this group.
Has anyone else had this experience and can explain it and recommend a fix?

Many thanks,

Barry
