One piece of information that I should have included in my earlier post, which, IMO, exonerates the engine as the sole culprit in this behaviour is the fact that my son & I converted one of the cars from the M40 to an AW71 and the phenomenon disappeared. The car will idle along in L at a few kph as smoothly as can be.
