Gland nut wrench question 200 1986

What can I use in place of the gland nut wrench to remove the nut on the top of the front strut tube. The local parts stores that rent tools don't have any or have never heard of it. Would a large pair of pliers work just as well or does anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks in advance.
