While my car's an amazon, it's now equipped with a B20E and Dual HIF6 carbs which was the same setup in my '72 145. So, I'm posting in here to get some help tuning it properly.
I don't have a timing light yet but so far I've adjusted the TDC on #1 to 0 degrees advance and gotten the engine to start and idle.
I've been trying to get the carb mix and idle down to a smooth 900, but it flatly refuses to do so. I back the idle adjustment out entirely and the engine either dies or shakes so bad I have to speed it up again.
I noticed prevoiusly that advancing the timing increased the idle speed so I'm wondering if I need to retard the timing?
Also, getting these carbs tuned properly has been a real pain. I know that when the mix is too rich, opening the pistons slightly should increase idle speed. Convesely, a thin mixture results in a stumbling idle or stall. However, no matter how rich I set the #2 carb, opening it's throttle immediately stalls the motor. I can't seem to find the "sweet spot."
I'm guessing that the carbs won't adjust properly until I get the timing more precise.
What are proper specs for a B20E with HIFs?
