89 240DL engine not turning over after collision 200 1989

hi,
after an unfortunate loss of control on black ice, the car glided into a tree with the impact squarely on the right side front quarter panel (right in front of the passenger door).
the car has NOT started since, and i've noticed the following:
1. when the key is in the ON position, i don't hear any noise coming from the fuel pump.
2. though the panel is pretty busted up, there is no internal damage under the hood.

that's pretty much it. i don't know what else i should be looking for in terms of making this problem any easier to diagnose.
all help is very appreciated.
