Heaterhose from firewall to heat temp valve too short?? 200 1990

Hi all
Newest update here on my heater core replacement project. I've re-installed the Heater unit in the car, everythings lined up and i got the bolts hand threaded. Everything seems to be going smoothly until i go to attach the new heaterhose from the firewall to the temp control unit, too short! Arghh, i can only get the hose on like a quarter of an inch.
So I'm thinking either i have to attach the hose to the temp control first, that way giving me more leverage on top to pull the hose onto the firwall male connector, or get a new hose. If i try to use the old one i might be able to get the one end on the firewall connect just enough to get a hose clamp on it. But i might also bend around the temp control valve too much.
Has anyone else had this problem in the past? Where should i get a new hose?? Note.. I'm using the scantech control valve from fcp..
thanks
cp
