Car Won't Start 700 1987

Suggestions are appreciated in pinpointing the trouble spot for my 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo. I drove it to school today, and it turned on fine. Then at lunch I was about to leave when I turned the key and it made absolutely no noise whatsoever. Just dead. After school I called AAA and they sent a tow truck; the guy checked it over, he said the wires, battery, and gas all looked fine. He had me try to turn it on while he messed with it up front and it didn't turn on. What would you guys say this could be, are there any common problems with these cars? Thanks!
