No Crank after clearing codes - help! 700 1990

1990 740 GL, automatic trans.

I checked my diagnostic codes, and then cleared them. No problems. Now, the car won't crank. Instrument panel lights come on, just no crank, as if the shifter is in Drive (but it's not). The car was running fine just before I checked/cleared teh codes.

I tried totally disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes, didn't help.

Does anybody know why clearing the codes would cause a no crank condition?
