Hair-Tearing and SU Carbs 120-130

Well, after getting my HIF carbs back on and running the car well yesterday, I tried to take it to work for the first time a a few months. However, the car refused to start and idle. I ended up driving my spare car to work. The car would still not start well. This is after I drove it on three separate trips Sunday w/o any trouble at all so it was extremely frustrating.

I finally got it going and adjusted the mixture and idle speed "freehand" w/o using my unisych. This resulted in a car that did idle, rev and drive okay, but I know it is running very rich. It dieseled quite a bit on shutdown and no doubt my mileage will be horrible.

On the plus side, both carbs passed the lift-pin test.

I'm getting near by wits end with these things. There seems to be no happy balance. I've rebuilt both carbs, both have new BAL needles and jets, both have good throttle seals, extra vacuum ports are plugged, throttle plates are smooth, and float tabs are matched. I just don't get it.

There must be something I've overlooking, I just can't see what...
