Minor Breakthrough, More advice needed 120-130

A really nice day today coupled with a paid holiday, so I got a bit of time in on car.

My carb problems seem to be largely with #1, which is the only one of the two carbs with a choke. So, today I took the carbs off (again) and checked the jet.

The red-end "improved" design jet appears to have a slightly smaller hole in the end. I suspect this has a bit to do with my uneven carb behavior, so I put an older jet in the carb and reassembled. This improved the behavior somewhat but then my #1 carb triggered the overflow valve.

Sooo.. I took the carbs back off and checked the floats. I noticed that the tab design is different between the two floats. I adjusted the tabs a bit and was able to take care of the overflow.

I think This has led to a clearer view of what I hope is the "real" problem.

#1 will not idle any lower than 1000 rpms - this is with the idle screw adjusted out as far as possible. If I lean the mix up, idle drops but the car begins to idle very rough and stalls and won't restart without choke.

While idling, the lift pin test always fails the #1 carb. The idle also takes a while to return after I "snap" the throttle linkages. Maybe a Clue?

Whatever is going on seems to be a problem with #1.

I'm thinking that replacing both jets and the floats would be a good start, but I wanted to ask opinions on what else might be causing #1 to idle so high.
