I posted a few days back regarding my 240 that experienced a bad case of auto tranny leak inside the radiator. The ATF dipstick is color almost choco brown. I had the radiator temporarily repaired and followed one of the posts in the brickboard regarding flushing of the transmission (using the oil cooler connecting valve as an outlet of the used ATF while the engine is idling, etc.) After using about 4 liters of ATF, the choco color remained the same with only minimal color improvement of the "used" ATF. My mechanic suggested that I go ahead and top of the ATF to its optimal level and "break-in" the tranmission. The rationale behind this is the difficulty of removing the water/coolant in the tranmission despite of the flushing. I was also told that the water will eventually dry up/evaporate since there is a built-in breather and due to the heat generated by the engine/transmission. I just have to monitor the level of the ATF closely, to top it off as soon the level goes down. Any comments/suggestions will be appreciated.
