Opinion on wiring issues 200 1984

Hey folks,

Here are a few photos of my engine harness connector area near the firewall. You will see that it looks like crap. The couple pieces of black tape were just put there by myself just in case those wires jiggle enough to touch while driving but I got to fix this. You will see some wires coming out of the harness that are bare and connected to nothing. They look like their insulation is yelllow/green, perhaps one is pinkish. Also, several wires going into the connector are bare as well. I am of a mind to just remove the mostly useless male/female grey connectors and just crimp the wires together well and protected. What do you think? Also, what could be those unconnected wires.

There is also another photo taken of the area next to the oil filter, along the harness that goes to the ECU. There's some bare wiring coming out of there, although I can't make out the insulation color unless I take it all apart.

Recently, my starter just failed and needed to be replaced because on some shorts in the wirings up there. I want to prevent any more problems and fix everything as it should be (without having to replace the whole harness).

And while I'm at it, the final photo is of a hose near the firewall. It it loose, goes back and forth on that fitting. Does anyone know what that hose is and does it need to be tight?

I have been tuning up the car and replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor, air filter, cleaned throttle body replaced flame trap, replaced or fixed vacuum hoses between cannister and throttle body/fuel filler. Currently replacing the O2 sensor, and had the fuel filter replaced. The main issue I'm still facing is really bad gas mileage, and too much noise/vibration from the engine at idle while in drive mode. As for the wiring, who knows what is disconnected that should be connected and currently causing trouble (such as the ECU).

Thanks for any opinion on this!
