High Idle.... Fixed!! 200 1990

I've been working on fixing my 1500 rpm idle.

Looks like it was a combination of gunk on the lip of the throttle body plate, and the TPS switch a bit out adjustment??

I removed the throttle body and thoroughly cleaned it and backed off the idle adjustment screw... the throttle plate was still not totally closed... but the TPS switch was still clicking when I cracked the throttle. Only after loosening the TPS mounting screws did the plate totally close. It appeared like the TPS switch was keeping the throttle plate from closing completely.

I adjusted the idle set screw to get that "closed but not stuck" plate position, then I adjusted the TPS per specs.

Put everything back together replacing all the flame trap components in the process and she's idling at about 700. I then went on to replace the plugs, cap, rotor and air filter... Running like a new car!!!

This project reinforced the idea for me that for any idle related problem, the absolute first step should be removing cleaning and adjusting the throttle body.

Thanks to all who gave the recommendations... till next time
