Volco 240 GL 200 1989

I am so glad a found you all on this website. I recently purchased a 1989 Model 240 GL car in Elmhurst, IL. The reason of choice: My Dad had a volvo 240(while we were in Nigeria) when I was a todler, so lots of memories and I always wanted to own one.

The car is in very good shape. No rust, no dings everything looks rock solid. There are certain minor concerns for which I would like to seek help from you all. There is a hairline crack in the windshield. Is it possible to replace it, without going to a mechanic? If yes, any instructions, tips etc? Any suggestions where I can find a good windshield? I intend to visit a few junk yards, in the meantime.

2nd question, when I start the Key, it takes around 2 seconds to start. Its like..Khhkhh....Khhh..I have to rotate the key only once, but there is a small delay after that the car comes alive. Is it a sign of anything to come? I did try another volvo 240 GL (This car had only 100,000 miles, while mine has around 180,000 miles) and it started in a jiffy, just like any other normal car in good condition.

Last, I am planning to change the shock absorbers. Will shocks of any other car will suit a 240 GL?

Thank you.
Joseph
