The car is a 1996 960 wagon with 123,000 miles on it.
Driving home Saturday I was going about 65mph and notice my check engine light was blinking. I soon realized I was driving in 3rd gear instead of drive. I put the car in drive and when I got home I pulled a code of P0305 cylinder 5 misfire.
I noticed some broken insulation on the plug wire for the coil pack and wrapped each of the wires with electrical tape. No change.
I swapped coil packs, cleared the code and the same code came back.
I swapped the power stages and still got "cylinder 5 misfire"
I swapped the spark plug with the 1st cylinder plug and still got the same code.
I had a plug for an Explorer that I put in the coil pack for cylinder 5 and laid it across the top of the engine and started the car to see if I was getting spark and it was sparking but it seemed to be an orange colored spark not a blue/white spark like I was expecting.
The plug in cylinder 5 was wet and smelled like gas,,, would that rule out an injector problem? I was going to pickup an injector tomorrow but I'm not sure thats the problem
Should the spark be bluish in color?
Anything else I could check?
Thanks
