I am still looking for the fault causing my 960, 96 model, 3 ltr car to idle irratically.
I posted a thread which you responded to advising a vacuum leak (excessive) which not only caused the idle revs to run between 1000 and 2000 revs, periodically (other times revs low enough to give the feeling the engine is about to stall, although this has not happened)and also loss of assistance on the brake servo>
having changed the inlet gasket initially, where I found the gasket split accross the second cylinder then rebuilt everything and ended up with the above fault I stripped the manifold back out and checking every stage of re-build as you (Paulli) outlined I still have the same fault showing.
So, as of now I have,
Changed the gasket
Checked for leaks on the five vacuum pipes coming off the branch connected to the manifold (four of these pipes are plactic the fifth one is a small rubber hose, all in good condition including the rubber hose connectors at the emnds of these pipes) changed the `o' ring seal where the branch fits into the manifold, changed the brake servo hose for new and tested its non-return valve for operation.
Having re-built everything I have pulled off the five hoses, from the branch and the brake hose (all individually) whilst the engine is running and there is suction in all the pipes, with no change of engine revs noticed either with the pipes on or off.
I have sprayed carb cleaner around the hoses and every where else, listening for change, none found.
I have listened with rubber pipe to ear, for hissing, none heard.
And the next step is?????
All advise is welcome, (apart from scrapping the car as before that happens this fault will be found)
