Of all the absurdity I've posted since '03, this might win a prize.
Last evening, she turned right over, idled up to almost two grand, then died immediately. Tried again, while blipping the throttle. Coughing, sputtering, trying--then dying. She's been running perfectly for months; her state of tune is flawless. We're looking forward to Portland, too.
I did have spark, so I pondered fuel pumps/filters and the mi$ery of replacing them. Fuses 4 and 6 looked good, as did the FI blade. I jumped on the 'Board, found a similar issue, and tried unplugging the AMM.
WELL! She ran, at about 1800, and with a very loud hiss (like one would only hear at a tire shop)! I searched and searched, wondering where the obvious problem could possibly be. And at long last, I discovered that the "face" of the brake booster check valve had simply popped clean off!
Crazy, you say, and you're certainly right. I don't believe I've ever read of it happening, and I suppose I could have limped home on duct tape. As it was, though, I was damned glad to be in the driveway--with a spare valve on hand!
See you at IPD this Saturday, perhaps,
Brendan.
