Hello all,
I recently acquired a 71 145 for free! Just had to haul it out of a field. I'm pretty excited to get back into Volvos as I used to have a 69 142. I had that car around 15yr ago and really liked it. It's been a long time and a lot of pining over getting another 1 series and the wagon came along. It is my favorite year.
I do have a laundry list of questions though since it's been a while, but I don't think any of them will be too difficult. This is just a fun project that I'm trying to keep the $$ down.
Rear hatch: Are these interchangeable with a 245? My hinges were broken and I took the new ones off a 245 and they were identical. My hatch is pretty rusty and not worth messing with and I wouldn't mind getting a later one that needs less work.
Seats. It looks like the previous owner replaced all the seats with a 2 series but the fold down back seat doesn't have the hw to make it work. Are these the same as a 2 series or should I be looking for an earlier seat. The front seats seem fine. Can I replace the 245 rear seat mounting hardware with the original? Thoughts?
Parts. When I had my 142, there were other 1 series cars in wrecking yards. I don't expect there are many of those left. Where are the best places to look for parts? Are there any volvo specialist yards around? I'm in the pacific NW.
Calipers. The calipers on the car were mostly seized. I've been able to loosen up one of them and half of another, seems like it would be easier to replace them with some working ones. Any advice here?
Fuel sending unit. Are these still available? The car has 275k miles and mine is worn out.
Rear Seat Belt. Seems the later (73/74? or later) wagons have a rear shoulder belt that is attached to a post in the side window just behind the rear seat. Can that be retro-fitted to the earlier car?
Rear suspension. The rear springs on my car are bolted to the trailing arm. I seem to remember that there are some years that have the spring bolted to the frame on the top and then just sit in a cup that is bolted to the trailing arm. What years are those cars?
Thanks in advance for the information.
