WELDING CONCERNS 200 1975

Are there any precautions to take for welding on the car besides the more obvious ones like staying close to the work--disconnect battery--etc?
I'm especially wooried about the very odd alternator in the 75 with the internal diodes and the externnal regulator . Should I try to isolate either one as well by disconnecting(not too easy) or is disconnecting the battery
enough??
